چکیده

chronic inflammation manifests mainly in the region of the respiratory bronchiole between the terminal bronchiole and the pulmonary parenchyma (1). Its clinical onset usually occurs after the age of 40 or 50, and men are more commonly affected than women. Patients often have a past history of chronic paranasal sinusitis. Insidious and chronic expectoration of purulent sputum is found in the early stages of the disease, and progressive exertional dyspnea appears later. In the late stages, large amounts of purulent sputum and severe bronchiolar dilatation are present. Finally, patients succumb to respiratory failure (2). J Korean Radiol Soc 2003;48:467-473

Centrilobular nodules correlate with air trapping in diffuse panbronchiolitis during erythromycin therapy.

BACKGROUND Low-dose erythromycin therapy improves airflow limitation and airway inflammation in patients with diffuse panbronchiolitis (DPB). However, to our knowledge there has been no study to determine whether physiologic improvement during erythromycin therapy correlates with radiologic findings. STUDY OBJECTIVE To clarify whether improvement in pulmonary function correlates with specific...

Diffuse panbronchiolitis in an Asian immigrant.

Diffuse panbronchiolitis (DPB) is a disease with chronic inflammation exclusively located in the region of the respiratory bronchiole. It is largely restricted geographically to the Far East, and cases in Western countries are exceptional, even among Asian immigrants. A patient of Asian origin with DPB who had been living in France for 10 years is described. Only re-examination of the initial o...

The Correlation of Brody High Resolution Computed Tomography Scoring System with Clinical Status and Pulmonary Function Test in Patients with Cystic Fibrosis

Background: To reduce the mortality and morbidity rates of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, and to have an effective clinical management, it is important to monitor the progression of the disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the progression of lung disease in CF patients by means of assessing the correlation of the CT scoring system with clinical status and pulmonary function test at th...

A pilot study of low-dose erythromycin in bronchiectasis.

Patients with bronchiectasis suffer from sputum production, recurrent exacerbations, and progressive airway destruction. Erythromycin is effective in diffuse panbronchiolitis, another suppurative airway disorder, although its efficacy is unknown in idiopathic bronchiectasis. A double-blind placebo-controlled study was therefore conducted to evaluate the effects of 8-week administration of low d...
